The short answer

Divide the ground first
Split the ground you have to search into blocks along the terrain, one per person. Agree the boundaries before anyone disperses.

Each person announces how many they found and where. Do not narrate your route - that only makes everyone retrace somebody else's path.
Schematic: correct positions for the face-counting puzzle. Every screen needs a watcher, each counts only what they see, then add them up.
