The short answer

One player opens the door and steps into the disc room, which locks behind them. A stone lights up on the disc. They cannot see the buttons, and the people outside cannot see the disc, so the only channel left is pointing plus direction words. Whoever is outside presses the matching one of the 5 buttons on the inner wall, and repeats it 10 times until the long black panel fills.

The first red tower puzzle most people bump into, in the green building on the way down from the red tower. It is also the first full sample of this game's separated-communication design - the orange storage, the interrogation room and the linked rooms are all variations on it.

Before you start

  • 2 players (one inside, one outside)

Step-by-step5 steps

  1. 1

    Go into the green building

Walk down the slope from the red tower into the green building. Inside there is a large window, a semicircular panel in the middle of the room, and 5 buttons on the wall outside the panel room. Get the three of them straight in your head first.

  2. 2

One player enters the panel room

A player opens the panel room door and steps in. The door locks immediately, and one stone on the panel lights up.

  3. 3

Agree a way of pointing (this is the step that matters)

Nobody outside can see the panel and nobody inside can see the buttons - the person inside can only point. Spend 30 seconds agreeing how you count: from the left, or clock positions ("your 10 o'clock").

Faster:"I think it is the third" will fail, because you may be counting from opposite ends. Say "third from the left".

  4. 4

Whoever is outside presses the matching button

The person inside points, the person outside presses that button. When it is the right one, the long black panel on the wall fills by one.

  5. 5

    Repeat 10 times

A new stone lights up for every correct press. Filling the panel takes about 10 presses, and unlocks the first red tower control panel part.

Faster:Change one input at a time. If you change three things and get a new state, you have learned nothing.

Gesture cheat sheet

On this puzzle your voice does not matter. This set of agreements does.

Where it goes wrong

These are the questions real players search for most. Working through them in order usually finds the cause.

It is not. Almost always you two are counting from opposite ends. Say the direction out loud, then press.

No, and that is the point. They can only point, and pressing is always the job of whoever is outside.

After finishing:1 red tower control panel part (any 5 of them will do).

Where this solution came from

The coordinates and the solution - window, semicircular panel, 5 buttons on the outer wall, repeat 10 times - come from Screen Hype's red tower guide; the mechanic matches games.gg's Green Room description.

Puzzles in this game are not assigned in a fixed order: most of them reward the same generic red gourd, so you can clear any set of challenges around a tower. That is why two guides list different puzzle line-ups for the same tower — neither is wrong. Unless a coordinate is credited to a named source it is a community measurement, and later versions can shift it; once you are in the area, trust the landmark over the number.
